Frequently Asked QuestionsIf you have come directly to this page, I hope that the following brief questions and answers are helpful. More detailed information is included on the previous pages.Who Can Benefit? All types of individuals can benefit from counselling and psychotherapy. Many first approach a counsellor when they are experiencing a crisis or have suffered a trauma. Others seek counselling because they feel unfulfilled and unable to make progress in their lives. Some people seek support from a therapist because, even though they feel happy with their lives, they are looking to deepen their self-awareness. How Long Will I Need? For some clients, a focussed spell of 6-8 weekly sessions is enough to help them deal with a specific problem. Sometimes clients need longer support in order to explore both their historical and their present day issues. In these circumstances clients typically chose to work with a therapist for a period upwards of a year. Clients who are having to deal with particularly severe trauma may well decide to continue in therapy for longer. However, this eventuality is not confined solely to these clients. Those clients who are focussing on self development often chose to take a longer term approach to their therapy. How Much Does It Cost? My fees are £40 per session. I offer a limited number of concessionary places for those on low incomes. Can I Be Sure of Confidentiality? I will treat the content of our sessions as confidential, as outlined in the professional Code of Ethics of my governing body (UKCP). You may consider letting your GP know that you are receiving counselling, particularly if you are taking medication or you are experiencing physical symptoms of which your doctor is not yet aware. What Do I Do Now? If you would like to know more, please feel free to contact me by 'phone or email. I will be happy to discuss your individual needs. Alternatively an initial assessment meeting can be arranged, without commitment, so that you can meet me and make a considered choice as to the options available to you.
