My Experience and Qualifications
I have provided counselling and psychotherapy in Nottingham since 1997 and am a postgraduate member of the Sherwood Training Institute (Nottingham). Having originally trained in a Humanistic-Person Centred approach, I now integrate a variety of working models depending on the needs of the individual client. As well as working in private practice, I am an associate counsellor and psychotherapist for Women's' Centres in Derby and Sheffield and have worked as a counsellor in both NHS and educational settings. I work with either individuals or couples on an open-ended or short basis, dependent on need. I also offer group counselling and facilitate a range of educationally based workshops.
My qualifications include:
- Masters Degree in Humanistic-Person Centred Psychotherapy
- Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision
- Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling
- Diploma in Humanistic-Person Centred Psychotherapy
I love learning! - and, as part of my ongoing professional development, I regularly attend seminars and workshops with leading international trainers and practitioners. Most recently I have been a member of an international Professional Development Group, lead by Richard Erskine Phd, Training Director of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, Canada. I've also undergone training in couples work, lead by highly experienced Relate professionals. I've also attended the London Sleep School, run by Dr Guy Meadows, to learn about his pioneering work in the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for the treatment of insomnia.
Continuous Professional Development is vital in keeping me abreast of new developments and thinking - and it helps me understand and work with a wider range of difficulties.
I am qualified and have experience of successfully working with clients who have mild psychiatric disorders or personality disorders and those who have a mild substance addiction. However, if your problem is chronic, I will advise you of agencies who deal with these specialist areas of work.
Other Relevant Experience
Before my career change in mid-life, I had worked for over twenty five years as a business manager in the Civil Service. I am therefore well-placed to support clients who are trying to cope with the cultural pressures and expectations of working in a large organisation.
Supervision of Clinical Practice
I offer supervision both to experienced practitioners and to therapists in training and very much enjoy the challenges of different levels of working.
As with my clients, I work with individuals and groups of supervisees in a relationally supportive and creative way, and always tailored to the specific needs of the individual. I believe this Integrative approach provides supervisees with challenge and support, regardless of their theoretical orientation.
